| Half a Roll: | One of the two numbers on a pair of thrown dice. Hara-Kiri Play - A strategy which exposes blots for the purpose of recirculating the players stones; also known as a suicide play | | Handicap: | Alternative set of rules designed to even the winning chances of two players of different skill levels, usually by improving the weaker player starting point. Backgammon handicap methods include extra commission taken from the stronger player, automatic opening roll and one time re-roll opportunity for the weaker player. | | Heavy Point: | a point with more than three stones on it | | Hit: | To land on a point occupied by an opposing blot and put that stone on the bar | | Hit and Cover: | To hit an opposing blot and then continue on with the same stone to cover your own blot | | Hit and Pass: | Pick and pass | | Hit and Run: | Pick and pass | | Hit and Split: | To hit a blot with one number while splitting your runners with the other number. The hit provides protection for the advanced split stone, making it less likely the opponent will be able to point on it | | Hit Loose: | To hit an opposing blot and while leaving your own blots in danger of retaliation | | Holding Point: | The defensive point you control when playing a holding game, usually the opponents four-point, five-point, or bar-point | | Home: | Home board | | Home Board: | The quadrant containing your nineteen-point through twenty four-point. It is the last quadrant your stones move to before they are borne off. It is also the quadrant your opponent must use to enter any of his stones sitting on the bar. Your home board is also called your opponents inner board or inner table | | Hustler: | A player who persuades another player to play a game for money when the other player is clearly less skilled |
