Jamaica's leading backgammon tournament the Strawberry Hill High Stakes was held recently at the chilly Strawberry Hill Resort at the Irish City. The Jamaican backgammon tournament was held for the third year, courtesy of the World Backgammon Association (WBA) and drew a prize pool of more than 1 million Jamaican dollars. 

The 3rd annual Strawberry Hill High Stakes Backgammon Tournament featured some of the highest rollers in the area, plus special guests such as Chiva Tafazzoli, the President of the World Backgammon Association. The two-event lasted throughout the weekend of June 6-8, 2008 with leading reggae acts from the league of Rootz Underground entertaining the backgammon enthusiasts in between competition. 

As its name indicates, the Strawberry Hill High Stakes Backgammon Tournament was not designed for low rollers. Entry fees to the backgammon tournament were priced at 35,000 Jamaican Dollars with 85% of all incomes are paid back and accumulated into a total prize of almost 1,500,000 Jamaican Dollars, even though some of the early registrants have changed their plans at the last minute.
