First Impression
Operated by "Party Gaming", PartyGammon is a website dedicated to backgammon games. Although the website is not as glimmering and entertaining as other backgammon sites, it is rather informative and clean.
Backgammon Software
At first glance the software is pretty impressive and realistic, with its 3D style boards. Although it might look a bit complicated, if you are familiar with other Party Gaming software it shouldn't be too difficult to navigate. The checkers can be moved both by drag and drop and by clicking on them. You can play games in single matches, series of matches or tournaments.
The boards appear to be similar in size and perspective to those of GammonEmpire and Play65, with a slight change of color palette which is bright but calming because of the black and white pips on a grey background and white and brown checkers.
Yet there are few automatic features lacking in this software. For example, the auto-bear off, automatic play of forced moves, and autoroll when you cannot double, don't function. In addition, there is no possibility of saving matches for later analysis, which is the most significant defect in the software.
Special Features
PartyGammon offers a variety of features.
A nice feature for beginners is the one that shows where a checker can move with the mouse cursor, without being irritating or obtrusive for experienced players.
PartyGammon presents three types of backgammon: classic, hypergammon and nackgammon. These different types of games differ by chip number and positioning of them on the board.
Another feature, affected by the poker mentality, is the option to participate in up to 4 backgammon games at once. Yet in backgammon it is not as practical as it is in poker.
Even though PartyGammon does not offer a special signup bonus, there is a "refer a friend" bonus. For every friend that joins as a real money player the referrer receives a 50$ bonus, whereas the friend receives a 25$ bonus.
Commission
The rakes of PartyGammon depend on the stake and the kind of game. For a single game, a stake up to 19$ will result in a rake of 5%, for 20$-99$ 4% and for 100$+ 2.75%. Whereas for a match a stake up to 19$ will result in a rake of 4%, as for 20$-99$ and 100$+ the rakes will be 3% and 3.4% respectively.
