First Impression
Dice Arena seems like a hip and professional backgammon room and its new collaboration with the World Series of Backgammon tour certainly contribute to its professional appeal. It offers a no-download backgammon software, yet requires pre-registration. Despite its somehow childish design, Dice Arena backgammon has a strong money play orientation; although play (virtual) money games are available, they are presented at the FAQ section as exercise for beginners. Dice Arena is available in 24 different languages, offering additional skill-luck mixed games on top of backgammon including Multiplayer Dice and Shoot the Moons, both variations of poker.
Backgammon software
No download backgammon software is a brilliant solution for those who fear to commit themselves to one backgammon room, or like to play from work or internet cafes. And in Dice Arena case, it does not affect the game's looks; the backgammon board has a realistic cork-covered appearance, plus it has nice avatars you can create for your playing self.
Bonuses & Promotions
Dice Arena does not offer sign up or refer-a-friend bonuses as the rest of the backgammon rooms. Instead, it runs a "loyalty program", in which every real money players accumulates loyalty points (the equivalent of stars in other backgammon programs) according to the amount of money he deposits. Thus, with 100 points, a player gets €5 bonus; €15 bonus on 1,000 points and so on infinitely, according to a progressive ladder.
Additionally, Dice Arena started running satellite tournaments for the World Series of Backgammon (WSOB) events in Europe, enabling the winners to get a free seat to the prestigious live tournaments.
Security
Dice Arena claims to be a secure website, employing an approved random number generator and anti cheating devices that protects players from unfair advantages gained by players who use artificial intelligence programs.
Support
Dice Arena support service is definitely its weak point; available only five days a week (Monday to Friday), only during office hours (9-17 CET) and only by mail, it does not appeal to non European players, nor to online backgammon veterans who are used to 24/7 attention. |
